High Fives Should Hurt A Little

My mind was wandering while my daughter and I ran the second day of the fourth week of the Couch to 5K program. I was thinking about game mechanics, pain and running. Exercise, like much of my life, has to be played like a game or I won’t do it. I set small attainable goals and celebrate every win. I was thinking about various other games I play all throughout my day. I work best in 25 minute sprints using the pomodoro technique. Run Micah, Run!

I have been exercising regularly for over 10 years now. I have had peaks and troughs along the way in terms of my commitment to exercise, but it’s been pretty consistent. At my peak, I was at 19% body fat. This was about 2 years ago. While I know this is not elite athlete territory, it was an achievement for me having started out at around 26% body fat. While I have been active in my exercise regimen, my body fat has slowly crept back up to its current place of about 23%. TL/DR; This site is about fitness and technology. I have been working with technology professionally for over 20 years. I have crossed the spectrum from sys admin to junior developer to project manager to senior software engineer. I have a (perhaps unhealthy?) love affair with technology.
